Making scrap quilts, or even just going through your scraps , is like taking a sentimental tour back into "quilt time".

My nephew Paris was baptized this summer so it was once again time for Bomboniere. The theme chosen was fish. After about making over a 100 of them it became apparent that we didn't really know what to do with them. All these cute little fish with no purpose. Various ideas were heard - scroll down to see some and the final product.
And we all made cup cakes as well. My daughter Irini decorated them! - Nonie.
This quilt with X's also known as 'intersection 'is simple and effective. These skinny pinwheels were so easy and quick to make that the quilt top was done in one day (a very very full day of sewing mind you !!). I used the strips that I trimmed off the blocks in the back of the quilt. This gave the back some interest making this a double sided quilt . I think that I like the back of the quilt as much (if not more) than the front. - Nonie Quilting by Irene Lazari.

The overlocker was a struggle as the thickness of the sweaters varied, because different jumpers felt up more than others, so , the stitching is not as I would have wanted...guess I will just have to practice more to get this right in future. The blanket is double sided and on the front section I incorporated a jumper with a pocket for the remote control...I know my cousin well !...Because it was really thick along these pocket seams I had to sew 2 strips of fabric to hold it all together on my regular machine ( I know how that works compared to the overlocker )... a cream, and ,on the back a brown batik .I also decided I was not going to make it a perfect rectangle and trim it leaving the wider parts as they were ...very informal compared to traditional patchwork...hey there's an idea....again !!!...So,finally, even if you think something is trash someone else will really appreciate the challenge of upcycling it into something of use....Maro
